LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS OF NORTH EAST ENGLAND
BY LYNDA TAYLOR
Landscape; I paint from observation but am attempting to capture the "spirit of a particular place rather than a photographic image. Because light and weather conditions constantly change the colours of the landscape, each painting is a record of a fleeting moment and I'm most interested in capturing instants of vibrant colour. Spring, summer, autumn and winter each have their own appeal. Spring and summer have a palette of vivid greens and the splash of wild flowers. Autumn colours; reds, ochres, and purples can often be so intense that they create bold abstract patterns, while the cold blues and white of winter pick out the texture of the land, defining the medieval rig and furrow ploughing and ancient field boundaries, hedgerows and dry stone walls.
I see an uncompromising vitality in the Northumbrian Countryside and love to paint everything from hill farms, pele towers, castles, village scenes, farmhouses, and rural homes to meadows of wild flowers, Cheviot's wild goats and the ubiquitous blackface sheep.
I have painted a variety of scenes in Coquetdale, Redesdale, Tynedale and the Northumberland coast. This includes: Rothbury, Caistron, Simonside, Cragside, Alnwick, Corbridge, Hexham, Elsdon, Otterburn, Rochester, Holystone, Sharperton, Callaly, Darden Pike, Darden Lough, Brocolita, Hepple, Barrow Burn, Thropton, Alnwick Castle, Druridge Bay, Alwinton, Harbottle, Whitton, The Farne Islands, Rothley, Morpeth, Holy Island, Lindisfarne Castle, Kielder, The River Rede, Hadrian's Wall.
There is always a selection of regional landscapes available for sale in the gallery.
Often I work to commission, to create a representation of a favourite place or even a treasured possession.
